BUENOS AIRES, April 16 (RHC) The left-wing seats of the Parliamentary Assembly of Europe and Latin America (EuroLat) have condemned the economic, commercial and financial embargo today imposed by the United States on Cuba.

In a joint statement, parliamentarians from Portugal, Uruguay, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Argentina, Ecuador, Greece and Guatemala emphasized that the aforementioned fence, imposed more than six decades ago, constitutes the clearest example of Washington’s criminal policy.

We urge the international community to stop unilateral sanctions measures against international law towards many Latin American countries, the EuroLat text adds.

Likewise, it condemns imperialist attempts “to strangle those peoples who, within the framework of their sovereignty, have chosen to advance towards national policies incompatible with the interests of large transnational corporations and concentrated economic power.”

On the other hand, they condemned the United Kingdom’s illegal occupation of the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia, the South Sandwich and the surrounding sea areas, and expressed support for Argentina’s claim to sovereignty over those territories.

In addition, they denounced the persecution of indigenous leaders in many Latin American countries. (Source: PL)
