UEFA confirms that Euro 2028 will be held in the UK and Ireland

UEFA has taken the decision to appoint the organizing body for the tournament Euro 2028 to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. next to, Italy and Turkey have been selected to host the 2032 tournament. This announcement was made at the headquarters of the European Football Association in the Swiss city of Nyon. The selection comes after Turkey withdrew its bid to host the 2028 tournament, leaving England, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scotland and Wales as the only contenders to host the prestigious European football event.

Euro 2028 matches will be held in 10 stadiums, including famous stadiums such as Wembley in London, Hampden Park in Glasgow, the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, and the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Awarding this tournament to the United Kingdom and Ireland represents a major achievement after several countries expressed interest in hosting it in previous years.

In 2016, Denmark considered the possibility of cooperation with Sweden, Norway and Finland, but in the end did not present a joint project. Likewise, the idea of joint candidacy between Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Serbia was quickly discarded. In 2018, Spain and Portugal expressed their intention to organize the UEFA European Championship or the 2030 World Cup, although they ultimately focused their efforts on the World Cup and had a successful bid with Morocco, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay. Last year, Russia also expressed interest, but UEFA deemed this not possible for 2028 and 2032 due to the situation in Ukraine.

Türkiye was the main competitor to the British-Irish Exhibition. Turkey initially showed interest in hosting both editions, but its decision to withdraw from 2028 and join Italy in 2032 paved the way for UEFA’s final decision.
