United Nations, December 9 (EFE): The United Kingdom confirmed on Friday that Russia is trying to obtain more weapons from Iran, including hundreds of ballistic missiles, in violation of United Nations sanctions against Tehran.

Britain’s ambassador to the United Nations, Barbara Woodward, said Iran had supplied Russia with hundreds of drones since August which have been used to “unlawfully kill civilians and attack civilian infrastructure”, leaving millions of Ukrainians without electricity.

“Russia is now trying to obtain more weapons, including hundreds of ballistic missiles,” the diplomat said in statements to reporters, noting that these supplies violate international sanctions imposed on Iran.

In return, Woodward said, Moscow is providing the Iranian military with an “unprecedented level of military and technical support”.

“We are concerned that Russia intends to provide Iran with more advanced military components, which would allow Iran to enhance its armaments,” he added.

Both Moscow and Tehran have denied using Iranian drones in Ukraine, something Kiev and its allies have repeatedly denounced.

This Friday, the British Ministry of Defense has already indicated in its daily segment that Russian forces are once again using Iranian drones in Ukraine, likely indicating new shipments of weapons to Moscow after stocks have been depleted.

The British ambassador spoke to reporters in New York hours before the UN Security Council was due to meet at Russia’s request to discuss Western arms supplies to Ukraine and how some of the weapons ended up in the hands of terrorists and armed groups. In other regions such as Africa, according to the Moscow treatise. EFE
