Russia has warned the British ambassador that UK sanctions could lead to “the ultimate destruction of bilateral relations”.

The United Kingdom announced on Saturday that it will boost its humanitarian aid to Ukraine by sending more essential equipment to relief centers and hospitals.

The British government said in a statement that it would provide an additional 287 generators that would help operate relief centres, hospitals, telephone towers and water pumping stations. The new generators are enough to power the equivalent of 8,000 homes and will be used for essential services in the face of the continuing devastation in eastern Ukraine.

According to the statement, hospitals, shelters and other essential services will be given more strength to act in the face of ongoing Russian attacks through another 287 portable generators donated by the UK government.

In all, the UK will have delivered 856 generators.

“Putin’s atrocities have continued to escalate, which is why we are increasing our support for the Ukrainian people in their time of need. Our donation of another 287 generators will ensure that more essential services in Ukraine continue to operate in their time of need,” said Kwasi Kwarting, Minister of State.

Britain’s decision followed a request from Ukraine’s ambassador, Vadim Prystaiko, who welcomed the earlier shipment of generators, saying “light will always overcome darkness,” the government said.

The generators will be delivered to a Polish government facility. From there, the Ukrainian government and the country’s power grids will distribute the generators across the country where they are most needed.

Fossil fuel rules: The British government also said it was relaxing rules on fossil fuel subsidies abroad to boost Ukraine’s vital energy supply.
