Nearly 78,000 Salvadorans visited Guatemala during last Holy Week

GUATEMALA CITY, April 1 (EFE).- During last Holy Week, Guatemala received a total of 77,357 Salvadoran tourists, the highest number of visitors from any country, according to data released Monday by immigration authorities.

The Guatemalan Migration Institute reported that after 77,357 Salvadoran tourists, the United States was the country with the second highest number of visitors with 22,119 foreigners from the North American country.

Honduras (16,424 visitors), Mexico (4,416), Costa Rica (3,711), Belize (4,273), and other countries, including Spain (1,001), continue on the list, according to the same source.

The data was collected by the Guatemalan Migration Institute during the past Holy Week, from March 22 to 31, at all borders of the Central American country.

In total, Guatemala received a total of 143,748 foreign visitors during the week of religious rest, based on data from the same government agency.

Holy Week passed in Guatemala without major events, waiting for the authorities to issue official statements on Monday.

Nearly half of the migration flow into Guatemala over the past week departed from La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City, followed by the Valle Nuevo land border, which connects the country to El Salvador.
