France’s European Affairs Minister Clement Peon told Europe 1 radio that European countries will announce measures in the coming days to pressure London to comply with the Brexit agreements signed with the bloc when Britain left the European Union.
He did not say what these measures were, but indicated in an interview with the radio that the United Kingdom depends on the energy supplies it receives from the European continent.
He said France was upset by the British town of Jersey’s decision to deny fishing permits to dozens of French boats.
“Enough, we have an agreement negotiated by France and Michel Barnier, and it must be implemented 100%. It has not been implemented,” he said, referring to the former EU’s chief Brexit negotiator, who is French.
“In the next few days, and I spoke with my European counterparts yesterday on this issue, we will be taking action at a European or national level to put pressure on the UK.”
“We defend our interests. We do it politely and diplomatically, but when that doesn’t work, we take action,” Boone added.
“For example, we can imagine, while we are talking about energy, … that the UK depends on our energy supply,” Boone said. They think they can live alone and crush Europe.”
