Ukraine recognizes the withdrawal from the Volchansk regions of Kharkiv

According to the military body’s report, the army was forced to change its positions in certain areas of Volchansk due to the attack by Russian forces, and moved to more suitable positions for defense, Ukrinform news agency reported on Wednesday.

Likewise, the memo states that Ukrainian units moved to “more suitable locations” in certain areas near the town of Lukyantsy, also located in Kharkiv Province.

Kiev specified that at the expense of such maneuvers ukrainian units intend to avoid losses. The military entity summarized, “The situation in the combat zones remains difficult.”

For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that its forces occupied several towns in the Kharkiv region.

The head of the civil-military administration of that region, Vitaly Ganchev, announced that Ukrainian forces had entrenched themselves in settlements on the Kharkiv front, but in the face of the Russian army’s attack they were unable to avoid retreat.

On May 14, according to Gantchev, Russian armed forces took control of the western and northern regions of Volchansk.
