The Tigray People’s Liberation Front condemns the new large-scale attack launched by Ethiopia in the Tigray region

MADRID, October 9 (European press) –

The Tigray People’s Liberation Front has condemned the start of a new large-scale attack by the Ethiopian army against its forces in this region in the north of the country, less than a week after the inauguration of the Ethiopian Prime Minister. Minister Abi Ahmed for a new term.

The Ethiopian army launched air strikes and bombings targeting the group’s sites over the past two days, according to group spokesman Getachew Reda, who did not give figures on casualties.

“At this point we are mainly talking about aerial bombardment with drones and artillery,” he explained in a text message compiled by Bloomberg, although he also warned that there are “thousands” of pro-government fighters currently near Hara cities. Wergesa and Wegel Tena, near the border with the neighboring Amhara region.

“We will maintain our defensive positions. We are confident that we will thwart the attack on all fronts,” the spokesman added. The Ethiopian government has not yet spoken.

It should be noted that this military concentration will take place in the areas where Abiy’s forces were present in the early days of the conflict. For several months, forces loyal to Abiy and Eritrean soldiers were accused of committing atrocities against the civilian population.

The conflict began in November last year when Abiy ordered a raid in retaliation for an attack on an army base. Hostilities took a turn in the summer, when the Tigray People’s Liberation Front made significant progress after the Ethiopian government temporarily suspended operations due to international pressure and a lack of funding.
