The Kenyan delegation visits Haiti

Port-au-Prince, October 13 (Prensa Latina) Local newspapers revealed today that a Kenyan delegation will visit Haiti next week to ensure diplomatic and legal requirements before the deployment of a multinational force.

The team of officials in the African country also aims to ensure a full assessment is carried out before any legal action is taken, according to the Vant Bef Info platform.

Last August, Japhet Kumi and Nur Jabo, Inspector General and Deputy Inspector General, respectively, of the Kenya Police, as well as senior officials and representatives of the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs, arrived in Port-au-Prince.

According to the delegation’s assessment, the mission to dismantle the gangs would be “viable” and its deployment could be successful, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithor Kindiki announced.

For his part, Comey confirmed that the mission was extensively planned to strengthen the police forces in Haiti, and the agents who will provide their services in the Caribbean country are currently being identified.

He added that this is a competitive process, as officers will undergo rigorous medical and training tests, as well as French language courses.

The UN Security Council agreed early this month to deploy a security mission not governed by the international organization to provide assistance to Haiti, which is besieged by armed gangs.

This mechanism will be led by Kenya and will be supported by Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Canada and the United States, among others.
