Caroline Garcia gains momentum heading into the US Open, taking the Western and Southern Championship titles with Win 6-2, 6-4 About the Czech Petra Kvitova.
Garcia, Cincinnati’s first runner-up in the tournament playoffs, took the win when Kvitova fired his second serve. Garcia took his knee and lay on his back on the field after the last point.
The 28-year-old French entered yesterday’s match with 26 wins since June, leading the WTA tour.
Kvitova, ranked 28 in the world, and Garcia, ranked 35 in the world, bounced back from the first-round defeats they suffered the week before in Toronto, to advance to the final in Cincinnati for the first time.
Garcia broke his opponent in the first game and advanced 4-0. Garcia also took an early lead with a break in the second set.
KvitovaThe 32-year-old was taken off the field for treatment for an injury after trailing 2-0 in the second set. He looked better when he came back, but he couldn’t come back.
