Science and innovation to increase the budget of the Royal Academies by more than 30% for 2023

The Royal Academies incorporated into the Instituto de España are intellectual, cultural and advanced research centers attached to the Ministry of Science and Innovation and under the High Patronage of His Majesty the King.

Today, His Majesty the King presided over the opening ceremony of the academic year for the Royal Academies, which represent excellence in sciences, arts and humanities in our country. This year marks more than three centuries since the first association between the Spanish Royal Academy and the Crown.

During the event, the Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morante, stated that we are in a new and better time for scientific research and innovative development in Spain.

Morant noted that research, development and innovation are a strategic priority for the country and conveyed the commitment of the Government of Spain to the Royal Academies and the Instituto de España by playing a fundamental role in putting science where it deserves.

In this sense, Morant emphasized that Spain in the present, and especially the future, needs the Royal Academies to continue to generate knowledge, disseminate science and provide advice to public and private institutions.

In her speech, the Minister also congratulated the paleoanthropologist and biologist José María Bermúdez de Castro on joining the Royal Spanish Academy and the scientists Elena García Armada and Ana Conesa Segara on their inauguration at the Royal Academy of Engineering.

The Instituto de España coordinates the National Royal Academies, which arose from the spirit of the Enlightenment and began to be established in Spain in the eighteenth century.
