General Raul Castro Ruz, Leader of the Revolution, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez, Thursday, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, His Excellency Mr. Sergey V. Lavrov, who is on a visit to our country.

During the meeting, it was possible to ascertain the excellent relations between Russia and Cuba, based on traditional friendship ties, to which both governments have given high priority, as evidenced by the high political level reached and the extensive exchange of visits made. .

An army general recalled Diaz-Canel’s visit to Moscow in November last year, which allowed to strengthen exchanges in sectors of mutual interest. Likewise, he endorsed Cuba’s interest in further developing relations between the two countries.

President Diaz-Canel thanked Russia for its traditional and unwavering support for the United Nations General Assembly resolution against the US blockade against Cuba, as well as for the multiple public condemnations of this criminal US policy.

The Cuban president defended seeking a peaceful solution to the current crisis in Europe, through diplomatic channels, in a way that guarantees the security and sovereignty of all, as well as regional stability and security, while condemning the unilateral sanctions imposed on Russia.

For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister classified the ongoing political dialogue as valuable and friendly and aimed at strengthening bilateral relations in all areas of mutual interest and benefit.

The distinguished visitor was accompanied by His Excellency Mr. Sergey A. Ryabkov, Deputy Secretary of State, and Victor F. Coronelli, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Cuba. In addition to Alexei Y. Drobinin and Alexander V. Shchetinin, directors of the Foreign Policy Planning Department and the Latin American Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, respectively.

On the Cuban side, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla also participated.
