Queen Elizabeth’s doctors are concerned about her health

Queen Elizabeth II’s doctors have said they are “concerned for Her Majesty’s health,” according to a statement from Buckingham Palace.

The Queen’s doctors have recommended that the 96-year-old remain under medical supervision at her castle in Scotland. “The Queen is still comfortable,” the palace said.

Prince Charles, the Queen’s son and successor to the throne, traveled to Balmoral with his wife Camilla, according to his office. Prince William, the Queen’s grandson, is also traveling to Scotland.

Liz Truss, the new British Prime Minister, tweeted that her thoughts were with the royal family. He formally took office after a meeting with the Queen on Tuesday, which unusually took place at Balmoral rather than Buckingham Palace in London.

The entire country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace at lunchtime.

My thoughts – and those of people across the UK – are with Her Majesty and her family at this time.

Britain’s longest-reigning celebrated its platinum jubilee earlier this year, marking 70 years of service. Her husband Philip, the longest-serving royal companion in history, died last year at the age of 99.

Proceedings in the House of Commons were halted briefly with a statement from House Speaker Lindsey Hoyle, while the BBC boycotted its regular news broadcasts.

“I know I speak for the whole house when I say that we send our very best wishes to Her Majesty the Queen and that she and the Royal Family are in our opinion and our prayers at this time,” Hoyle said.
