Poland – USA and Greece – Italy, duels in the Nations Cup Final Four

Madrid, January 4 (Europe Press) –

The first edition of the US Cup, a mixed-country tennis competition, continues to progress and the ‘Final Four’ was formed, after the duels of the three-court finals, with duets between Poland and the United States, Greece and Italy in search of the Grand Final and the struggle for the title.

The first team to advance to the quarterfinals was the United States, who won the best-of-five series against Great Britain 4–1, thanks to wins by Keys, Pegula and Tiafoe and mixed doubles, for Norrie’s only victory for the Briton.

With two men’s and women’s games between the seeded teams, plus a mixed doubles tiebreaker per need, the other two ties went to that tiebreaker. Greece defeated Croatia, with the victory of the duo, Sakari Tsitsipas, over the Croatian Martic-Gogo.

In the other series, Poland reached the “Fine Four” by defeating Italy with wins over Liniet, Swiatek, and mixed doubles, with Swiatek and Horkacz defeating Rosatello and Musetti. However, on points and thanks to the victories of Berrettini and Musetti, Italy managed to be the best of the defeated and also continue to fight.

This new competition has a strange shape. The three venues for the group stage (Brisbane, Perth and Sydney) each hosted two of the group stages, with the group leaders from each city advancing to the finals to determine access to the ‘Final Four’ – the three winners of the three duels plus the best loser (Italy) -.

On Friday, January 6, starting at 1:00 pm (in Australia), the first of the four-round semi-finals, between Poland and the United States, will kick off with a duel between Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula. The other “half”, starting at 7:00 pm, will be opened by the Greek Maria Sakkari against the Italian Martina Trevisan.
