Nicolás Maduro’s visit to Brazil featured in Venezuela Week

The Bolivarian ruler’s trip to Brasilia after eight years, the bilateral meeting with Lula and the presidents of Argentina, Bolivia and Colombia, as well as the consensual document reached at the meeting, raised hopes for unity and integration within the diversity of the Indian subcontinent.

Maduro considered the meeting with the Brazilian host “historic, transcendent, and a victory for the dignity of our peoples.”

Upon his return to Caracas, the President affirmed that South America is meeting, converging, and discussing the path of integration and unity, noting that he witnessed “a good discussion rich in culture and proposals.”

He said the summit, which was attended by 11 of the 12 presidents from South America, excluding Peru, was “a sure step in the right direction”.

He stressed that the two days they spent in Brazil were wonderful and unusual for the historic project of cooperation and common development.

In Brazil, the so-called “Brasilia Consensus” was reached and we said from the Bolivarian Republic that this consensus is the best starting point for returning to the paths of integration and the necessary, independent and sovereign unity of South America, he commented.

That document reaffirmed, in its nine points, the common vision that South America constitutes a region of peace and cooperation, based on dialogue and respect for the diversity of our peoples, committed to democracy, human rights, sustainable development and social justice.

Similarly, in the rule of law and institutional stability, defend sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.

The dignitaries attending the South American summit also agreed that regional integration should be part of the solutions to meet common challenges in building a peaceful world, promoting democracy and promoting economic and social development.

As part of the restoration of relations, the governments of Venezuela and Brazil signed strategic agreements for the development of both countries with separate memorandums of understanding.

One in the field of agro-food, and the other to establish the supervision and follow-up mechanism for the bilateral cooperation program, in addition to opening the way for progress in border security programs, in cooperation in the field of energy and oil, among others. .

The foreign ministers of Venezuela and Colombia, in the presence of Maduro and Gustavo Petro, signed an agreement establishing the Neighborhood and Integration Commission between the two countries.
