The Minister of Culture, Gisele Gonzalez, told Prensa Latina that a necessary project included in the General Act of Culture 2020 and in the founding pillars of that portfolio is emerging.

He said that the site would favor a better knowledge of the cultural reality of the country, through a directory and map of sources and statistics on the activities of the creative ecosystem in all its manifestations.

At the official opening of the portal www.sicultura.gob.pa, in the City of Knowledge, which was attended by the First Lady, Jasmine Colón, and representatives of the diplomatic corps, one of its creators, Walo Araújo, explained the potential of the developing space.

He noted that thanks to new information technologies, a project team has taken care of the project since May 2021, and that it now allows ordinary users and cultural agents to access ancestral knowledge, events, statistics, documents, authors, diverse cultural manifestations and news. Among other options.

Araujo highlighted the existence of an extensive inventory of the nation’s intangible heritage, which Mikultura will manage from next year.

However, it has already begun to be enriched by the contribution of a network of identity actors to dances, songs, handicrafts, traditional cuisine, literature, cinema, museums, libraries, music, publications, monuments and theaters, which can be recognized even on specialized maps.

He added that Sicultura also allows for greater transparency about the impact of culture on the economy and society through public policies such as the Beehive Plan, as well as learning about the history and current affairs of symbolic institutions such as the National Ballet or the Symphony Orchestra. .

He noted that the site is also an important tool for students, researchers, journalists, businessmen, teachers, businessmen and tourists interested in delving into the reality and creative, cultural and heritage work of Panama.

Countries such as Argentina, Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile and Colombia already have many years of experience in managing cultural information systems and have served as benchmarks for the isthmus in this new IDB-supported project.

In the next stage, Sicultura is expected to integrate satellite computation and coordinate the conduct of studies, in cooperation with the National Institute of Statistics and Census, universities and other public and private research centers, as well as international cooperation.
