(Globalism).- During the second episode of the “Harry and Meghan” documentary series that premiered on Netflix, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex addressed the acts of racism Meghan Markle faced when she became part of the British royal family.

According to Prince Harry, the former American actress “sacrificed everything she knew and the freedom she had to join him in his world” and this is something Meghan herself, 41, has admitted.

“At the time, I wasn’t thinking about how race plays a role. I really didn’t think about it,” says Meghan Markle, who has been constantly singled out by the press for being a mixed-race figure.

The Duchess of Sussex, who began her acting career in 2002 with the TV series “General Hospital”, is best known for her participation in the series called “Suits” for about 7 years, which the media found unusual for the royal family.

“People are very aware of my profession because they made it a problem when I went to the UK. But before that most people didn’t treat me as a ‘black woman’. So that conversation didn’t happen for me.”

On the subject is her mother, Doria Ragland, who reveals the advice she gave her eldest daughter: “I told her very clearly this was about race. You might not want to hear it, but that’s what’s going to happen.”

As Prince Harry explains, directly, the reaction of the British monarchy: “They asked me not to say anything because whatever she was going through, they were going through it too. It was like a rite of passage and some family members would say ‘my wife had to go through’ With that, why would you treat your girlfriend any differently?”

The final seasons of “Harry and Meghan” will premiere December 15th on Netflix.
