Guatemala City, May 31 (Prensa Latina) The Guatemalan Congress (unicameral) held an official session to mark the 38th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic, which was officially promulgated on a day like today in 1985.

Secretary Marvin Alvarado read Ordinance 2-86 defining the anniversary, while many of the Ninth Legislature’s deputies endorsed their commitment to legislating for the benefit of the people, ensuring compliance with the people’s inherent rights and social development.

They reaffirmed the need to start up the justice system by teaching both boys and girls in this Central American country the content of the Magna Carta to ensure its compliance.

And it was featured in the law that the first regular period 2023-2024, from January 14 to May 15, approved 10 new decrees and seven agreements, focusing on issues of economic and social support, strengthening institutions, among others.

Senior officials from state institutions, authorities from the Supreme Court of Justice, the Constitutional Court, and diplomats accredited to the country, among other special guests, participated.

The Supreme Law came into force here on January 14, 1986 after an Act was drafted by a Constituent Assembly elected nearly two years ago by popular vote and after a turbulent political period.

It is defined by three parts: dogmatics, in which fundamental rights, obligations and freedoms are manifested; membership, with the basic organization and structure of government; The practical part is divided into constitutional guarantees and defense of the system.

Guatemala’s first constitution was drawn up in 1808, with the Captain General establishing its laws and regulations through the normative document known as the Bayon.
