France and UK break COVID records and cross 100,000 new cases in one day

France recorded just over 94,000 cases to the previous record high the day before. More than 16,000 people have been hospitalized in France due to COVID-19, of whom 3,300 are in intensive care.

French President Emmanuel Macron plans to hold a meeting of the Health Defense Council on Monday to draw up new measures to maintain the country’s security. Bloomberg reports that it’s possible that full vaccinations, with boosters, will soon be required to enter any bar, restaurant and cultural venues.

France has a population of 65 million, and that of the United Kingdom approaches 67 million. Spain, with a population of 47 million, set a record 50000 cases Earlier in the week, Italy (60 million) recorded nearly 45,000 cases on Thursday. Many other European countries are overwhelmed by increasing cases and imposing new restrictions.

There were more than 700,000 cases worldwide on Friday, and about 152,000 new cases on Christmas Day in the United States.

As of Thursday, Florida has counted 3,864,288 cases since the pandemic began in March 2020, and 62,374 deaths.
