Students and professors from the University of Juárez Autonuma de Tabasco (UJAT), involved in the San Pedro River Mangroves Project, will participate in the public consultation of the Wanha Protected Natural Areas Project, organized by the National Committee for Protected Natural Areas (CONANP) in which the voices of ejidatarios will be heard, and community members, municipal and state authorities, civic associations, and private initiatives, among other sectors.

This was stated by Professor Researcher of the Academic Department of Biological Sciences and Head of the International Project, Carlos Manuel Borrelo Ramos, who confirmed that from June 26 to July 1 of this year, 22 meetings will be held in which the importance of the name of this area, which consists of about 85 thousand hectares, will be held in the name of Biosphere Reserve and it’s.

In this sense, he pointed out that the biological and cultural wealth of this region becomes an important asset for the Los Rios region, because it is home to water-loving plants and mangroves, high evergreen forests and semi-evergreen high or medium forests, which are the habitat. for nearly a thousand species of plants and animals; Besides it protects the important relics of the Mayan culture.

Borrelo Ramos added that scientific studies conducted by professors and students from academic departments of biological sciences, interdisciplinary river sciences, social sciences and humanities, were the basis for the consultation process of the declaration of the National Ports Agency, which places UJAT within the procedures for generating national public policies in favor of caring for and saving the environment. -22-06-2023 / DSU
