The member states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of America-Peoples Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) strongly reject the shameful verbal attack launched by the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, on the Secretary of the Organization of American States. Foreign Relations of the United Mexican States, Marcelo Ebrard, 4 June 2021.

In addition to condemning the maneuver against Venezuela, ALBA-TCP condemned the illegal economic, financial and trade embargo imposed by the United States on the South American country, and expressed its solidarity with the government of Caracas. Photo: Taken from Tn8

ALBA-TCP member states condemn this attack on a high-ranking official of one of the major countries of the hemisphere by an official of an intergovernmental organization, especially because it is an unacceptable and persistent pattern of their reckless behavior towards selected countries.

Mr. Almagro is accountable to the foreign ministers of the member states of the Organization of American States, and the foreign ministers and governments are not accountable to him.

We note with great concern that the actions of the Secretary-General are not mere blatant interference in the internal affairs of states, which is prohibited by the Charter of the Organization of American States; But it also constitutes a flagrant transgression of its authority and duties.

ALBA-TCP member states endorse their solidarity and support for Mexico’s Minister of Foreign Relations and express their respect for Mexican institutions in the federal and local elections to be held on June 6 this year.
