14-year-old boy dies after swimming in lake during heat wave

Hertfordshire Police said a 14-year-old boy died after swimming in a lake in Cheshunt last night. England.

Police were called shortly before 5 pm to report that the teenager had not returned to the surface after being in the water.

Officers, the Fire and Rescue Service, and the East of England Ambulance Service responded immediately to North Met Lake, off Cadmore Lane, in Cheshunt.

Emergency services searched the area, including a police helicopter and some specialized police divers, but the boy’s body was not found until hours later, before 11 p.m.

The boy’s family has been informed, but his official identity has not yet been established.

“Following reports of a 14-year-old experiencing difficulty at North Dead Lake, off Cadmore Lane, Cheshunt yesterday (Monday, August 8), emergency services have unfortunately recovered a body,” an authority spokesperson said.

“Officers, the Fire and Rescue Service and the East England Ambulance Service responded immediately to the lake.”

“Emergency services have searched the area, including a police helicopter and some specialized police divers,” he added.

“The official identification has not yet been established, but the relatives of the minor have been informed.”
