You have to learn to live with covid

Britain’s new health minister, Sajid Javid, signaled this Sunday that the Conservative government intends to lift the latest restrictions in place due to the coronavirus by warning that the country must “learn to live” with the disease.

Javid, who on June 26 replaced resigning Matt Hancock – who violated sanitation regulations by kissing a consultant in the mouth – said in an article in The Daily Mail that there were “health reasons” for repealing pandemic restrictions.

“We’re on our way to July 19 (when the executive plans to complete the de-escalation imposed last January), but we have to be honest with people about the fact that we can’t eliminate COVID,” the minister wrote.

Javid, who previously directed the economy and the interior, among other ministries, explains that his first job in the health portfolio is to “reclaim our freedoms and learn to live with COVID.

The housing minister, Robert Jenrick, also indicated in several interviews this Sunday that Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government plans to lift all remaining restrictions on July 19, including mask use, and will halt health security. Practices in the hands of the “individual responsibility” of citizens.

While the government is paving the way for a potential reopening of society – with changes also planned to international travel, where quarantines of vaccinated people could be lifted – doctors warn that some protections are needed to maintain the health sector. EFE
