Peruvian tourists no longer need a visa to enter the UK! As we know, the British Embassy in Peru has announced that from 9 November 2022, visa requirements for short-term trips for Peruvian nationals visiting the country have been waived. This measure applies to tourism, business trips, short-term studies or medical treatment, with stays of up to a maximum of 6 months.
One of the main advantages of this provision is that visitors to Peru will not be required to provide biometric data, such as fingerprints and digital photography. On arrival in the UK you will only be required to present a valid passport covering the full duration of your stay.
However, despite the abolition of the visa requirement, there are other important requirements that Peruvian citizens must meet to travel to the UK. Some are detailed below:
- A valid passport: It is essential to have a valid passport, preferably with a minimum validity of 6 months. This is particularly important if you plan to travel to other EU countries, which require at least 6 months of validity on the date of entry.
- Plane tickets: A return or departure ticket to the UK must be presented as proof that you intend to leave the UK at the end of your visit.
- Proof of solvency: It is essential that you have sufficient financial resources to cover expenses while residing in the UK. This may include cash, credit cards, and/or travelers checks, as well as original bank statements.
- Accommodation: Documents supporting the hotel reservation and/or details of a relative or friend with whom you will be staying, including address and telephone number, must be provided.
It is important to keep in mind that the UK immigration agent has the discretion to decide the entry of Peruvian nationals. Therefore, it is recommended to have all the necessary documents and be ready to answer any questions regarding the purpose and duration of the trip.
Once entry requirements are met, Peruvian tourists will be able to enjoy a variety of activities in the UK. Some of the popular places to visit include Kensington Palace, Thames River Boat Tour, London Eye, London Transport Museum, Kew Royal Botanic Gardens, among others.
In addition to tourism, the United Kingdom offers Peruvians business and educational opportunities. Travelers who wish to enhance business and professional relationships will be able to attend interviews, meetings, conferences and trade fairs, as well as receive job-related training if it is not available in their home country. They are also allowed to provide training or share knowledge about internal projects with British employees of the company they work for abroad.
In the past 12 months, the UK has granted around 4,000 visas to Peruvian nationals, according to the British ambassador in Lima. Every year around 50,000 British tourists visit Peru.
Although the visa requirement is abolished, it is necessary to comply with other requirements such as possession of a valid passport, presentation of plane ticket, proof of economic solvency, and guarantee of accommodation. The UK offers a wide range of tourism, business and educational activities for Peruvians, making it easier to explore the country and to establish business and professional relationships. Currently, the new provision encourages a greater flow of tourism and cooperation between Peru and the United Kingdom.
