Vietnam is building 16 new railways by 2030

The Vietnamese government will invest in expanding the scale railway networkincluding the construction of 16 new railway lines with a length of about 4,802 km by 2030, and another 25 lines with a length of about 6,354 km by 2050, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The source explained that the planning of the railway network for the period 2021-2023, with a vision until 2050, with the approval of the Prime Minister, also calls for the improvement and renewal of seven existing railway lines with a length of 2,440 km.

As for the urban railways, the government has urged the relevant ministries and sectors to coordinate with Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to expedite the implementation of investment and construction projects in accordance with the approved planning, while other provinces are also studying the construction of these roads in the region.

In addition, maintenance, renovation and expansion of connecting stations with private-use railways will continue to meet transportation needs.

Once fully built according to plan, the railway network will connect strategic economic regions and corridors, urban centers, seaports, international border gates and airports across the country.
