The Union of the United Kingdom condemns the failure to pay overtime

According to the group, 3.5 million people stop receiving about seven thousand euros annually as a result of this violation of their rights, especially in the public sector, with particular emphasis in the field of teaching.

Prior to this complaint, Therese Coffey, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, told the House of Commons that “one of the best ways” to increase income is to “work longer hours, improve skills and get higher payments.”

According to the analysis of this phenomenon provided by TUC, 12.5 percent of the UK workforce works an average of seven hours of unpaid overtime per week, and the situation is more serious in London and the southeast and east of England.

The document also warns of the haste of the government, headed by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, to pass laws repealing provisions on workers’ rights, which were introduced when the country belonged to the European Union.

Some of these protections are a maximum weekly workday, daily and weekly days off between shifts and annual paid holidays, in a country that, in addition to high rates of inflation, is facing staff shortages in many industries.
