UK lifts all travel restrictions due to Covid-19

LONDON, March 14 (PRINSA LATINA) The British government announced today that from Friday it will scrap all restrictions on international travel due to the Covid-19 pandemic, including coronavirus tests and passenger location forms.

The decision also includes unvaccinated people, who are so far required to submit a negative Covid-19 test result before traveling to the UK, and take another paid test on the second day of arrival.

According to Transportation Secretary Grant Shapps, the measure is part of a plan designed by authorities to learn to live with the disease, and aims to provide greater freedom of movement ahead of the Easter holiday in April.

For his part, the Head of Public Health, Sajid Javid, confirmed that the authorities will continue to monitor and follow up on new variables that may arise, and are ready to respond if necessary.

The two officials emphasized that the recent abolition of restrictions was due to the success of the vaccination program, with eight out of ten adults in the country receiving the third booster dose.

Despite the optimism of the government, which since last month has raised the obligation to self-isolate for people infected with Covid-19, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday that in the past seven days there have been 444,201 positive cases of the SARS virus. CoV-2 that causes the disease.

The number represents a 48.1% increase over the previous week, while the number of hospital admissions due to Covid-19 has also increased by 19%, now approaching 12,000.

In that time period, 726 people also died after contracting the virus, for a total of 162,873 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
