Investing.com – British stocks ended higher on Wednesday; Sectoral gains led the indices higher.
At the close in London, it rose 0.77%, hitting a new 3-month high.
Best value for a session in Cannes Anglo American PLC (LON:) rose 3.59%, or 118.00 points, to settle at 3.00 at the close. It was followed by Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:), which rose 3.29%, or 37.00 points, to close at 1.00, and then shares. Antofagasta PLC (LON:) which rose 3.26%, or 44.50 points, to end the session at 1.00.
At the bottom of the index was Abrdn PLC (LON:) which fell 5.26%, or 10.80 points, to close at 194.40. British land For its part, PLC (LON:) declined 2.57%, or 10.40 points, and closed at 394.30 while. Tesco PLC (LON:) lost 2.36%, or 5.50 points, to close at 227.50.
The green numbers outperformed the red numbers on the London Stock Exchange by a margin of 969 to 826, with the 495 closing flat.
Gold futures for February delivery rose 0.96%, or $16.75 an ounce. Elsewhere in commodities, crude oil for January delivery rose 2.61%, or $2.04, to $80.24 a barrel, while Brent crude futures for February delivery rose 2.71%, $2.28, to $86.53 a barrel.
The GBP/USD settled down by 0.11%, to 1.19, while the EUR/GBP was unchanged, up 0.08%, to 0.86.
The dollar index rose 0.10% to 106.88.
