UJED Biological Sciences holds the “Women in Science” forum, El Siglo de Torreón

In order to achieve full and equitable access and participation in science for women and girls, and also seeking to promote gender equality, the College of Biological Sciences introduced, by default, the forum called “Women in Science”.

Dr Christina García de la Peña, Dr Gisela Moreau Perez and MC Alma Lilia Rosales on behalf of UJED, as well as MC Sofía Carrillo Lechuga of COCYTED Laguna and Dr Erika Nava Reyna of INIFAP participated in the forum. Guests.

Cristina García de la Peña, Forum Coordinator and Researcher at FCB, stated that one of the goals of this forum is to promote the access and participation of women and girls in science.

“More intellectual minds are needed to help with scientific proposals to solve various problems affecting society, for example the current epidemic, so it is important to invite all girls and adolescents to approach science and seek help to continue their academic training through scholarship programs.”

This virtual event was broadcast on the Facebook Live platform so that anyone interested can access the conversation, thus achieving greater interaction between the participants and distinguished guests, who have realized the critical role that women and girls play in science and technology, and encourage more and more women in these fields.

The Laboratory of the Faculty of Biological Sciences in charge of García de la Peña is currently working on the bacterial profiles project in the branch of metagenomics, with the aim of identifying bacteria affecting the health of cows and goats in the lake region; The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
