Two of UVa’s students are among the best university students in Spain

Two graduates of the University of Valladolid, Alvaro Elisis Acero and Laura Franco Henao, It has been distinguished by rewards at the end of certificates granted by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. Both completed their degrees, in Social Work and Economics, respectively, in the 2016-2017 academic year. Awards were given at the National Music Hall of Madrid, Symphony Hall, June 12th.

Álvaro Elís Acero, a Valencian from the town of Calzadilla de la Cuesta, finished his degree in Social Work at the Faculty of Education and Social Work with a grade point average of 9.43, and also received the End of Degree Exceptional Award in Social Work awarded by the University of Valladolid. After graduating, he received a cooperation scholarship in various departments of the then Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, with which he participated in a research project on social inclusion policies, also from grapes.

In addition to his master’s degree in Welfare State and Social Intervention Methodologies, between 2018 and 2021 he worked as a social worker in various entities of the third sector of social work, such as COCEDER and ASPAYM Castilla y León, developing research on various areas related to the rural environment and awareness campaigns And the development of projects and social programs and social care for people with disabilities. Since June 2021, he holds a pre-doctoral contract at Junta de Castilla y León and is integrated in the Department of Sociology and Social Work at UVa. He is currently developing his PhD thesis on long-term care for older adults living in rural areas, under the supervision of Professors Juan María Prieto Lobato and Carmen Rodríguez Somaza.

On her part, Laura Franco Henao graduated in Economics at Faculty of Economic and Commercial Sciences During the 2016-2017 academic year with an average grade point average of 9,528. After graduation, he studied for a master’s degree in international development at the University of Sussex With a Graduate Scholarship in Social Sciences from the Ramón Areces Foundation. He worked for four years in the UK, focusing his career on the circular economy. In 2022 she worked in Santiago de Chile as Director of Circular Economy and Sustainable Development and after this journey through Chilean territory she returned to London, the city where she is currently working as Project Manager / Project Manager at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

In addition, in 2018 Laura Franco received an Exceptional Finish Prize in Economics from the University of Valladolid. In 2016 he enjoyed a collaborative scholarship in research projects at UVa University departments and in 2017 he was awarded a scholarship to expand studies abroad from the Ramón Areces Foundation for Social Sciences.

Among his most recent publications are articles published on the industrial analysis platform of United nations For Industrial Development (UNIDO): “Circular Economy: An Engine for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development”, “Circular Economy: A Paradigm Shift for Global Solutions”. His most recent publication, What is the Circular Economy? , in collaboration with Ken Webster, at the National University of Singapore.
