They predict the formation of four major hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean in 2022

The upcoming Atlantic hurricane season is expected to include at least four major hurricanes, the team of researchers from the Colorado State University (CSU) Tropical Meteorology Project reports. Combine these phenomena, with strong winds of up to 178 kilometers per hour (km/h), Reuters.

Hurricanes, hurricane seasonForecasters forecast a total of 19 tropical storms with winds of 63 km/h, and nine hurricanes with winds of 119 km/h in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.

“Once again the hurricane season was above normal in 2022,” scientist Phil Klotzbach of California State University’s Department of Atmospheric Sciences said at the National Tropical Climate Conference in Texas last week. If forecasts come true this year, the seventh consecutive season of hurricanes will be above average.

“We don’t see any big trends that make us think we’re going to have an El Niño anytime soon,” Klotzbach said, adding that “if it looks like it’s been busy, that’s because it has been.” According to CSU researchers, this weather event is not expected to be the main factor in this year’s tropical cyclone season.

According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office (NOAA, for its English acronym), the average hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean is seven of these phenomena, three of which are large in size, as well as 14 tropical storms.
