The UK will ban American Bully XL dogs after several attacks

Madrid, September 15 (European Press) –

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that his government will make it illegal to own dogs of the American Bully XL breed, after a series of attacks on people revived debate about the control that can be exercised. About certain types of animals that exhibit a certain “behavioral pattern.”

Sunak explained that “the American dog Bully XL poses a danger to our society, especially to children,” stressing that it is not just “a bunch of poorly trained dogs” and that action must be taken “urgently.” As a first task, the government will have to “decide” exactly what type of dogs it wants to ban – they do not appear as a breed on any official list – something Sunak hopes to finish “quickly”.

This came in his message that the Prime Minister published on his social media account. Both Sunak and Interior Minister Suella Braverman identified the dogs that attacked the victim as American Bully XL.

British police arrested a 60-year-old owner this week after his dog attacked an 11-year-old girl in Birmingham, in an incident that also injured two men who came to the minor’s aid. These types of animals can weigh more than 60 kilograms, and if Sunak’s request is accepted, they will join a blacklist that currently includes only four other breeds.
