Everton Football Club, one of the most emblematic clubs in England, has made an important decision for the future. US investment fund 777 Partners has signed an agreement to acquire 94.1% of Toffees shares. The deal, which is expected to close in the last quarter of 2023, is subject to the approval of various regulatory bodies, including the English Premier League.

The Liverpool-area side have nine Premier League championships, five FA Cups, nine Community Shields and one European Cup Winners’ Cup.

The two parties announced through an official statement the agreement reached. The investment fund, based in Miami, United States, will acquire the majority stake that was until now in the hands of British-Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri. Although the financial details of the deal have not been announced, it has been confirmed that the takeover will include the full financing of the club’s new stadium at Bramley Moor Dock, located on the banks of the River Mersey.

Farhad Moshiri said: “The owner/donor days seem a long way off for most people, and the top clubs are now often owned by well-funded private equity firms, specialist sports investors or state-backed companies and funds.” He has become the club’s majority shareholder since 2018.

With approval pending from entities including the Premier League, the UK Football Association and the UK Financial Conduct Authority, the deal is expected to close later this year.
