London, April 29 (EFE). – The UK government announced on Thursday that in 2022 it will host the CEPI Summit, a global association created to develop vaccines that prevent future epidemics. .

In a statement, the UK’s foreign ministries and health called on UK international partners to “join” the CEPI meeting to “strengthen global health security”.

The Alliance was founded in 2017 in Davos by the governments of Norway and India, in cooperation with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Wellcome Foundation, and the World Economic Forum.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said: “British scientists and researchers have led pioneering work to produce life-saving vaccines that are currently being used in the UK and around the world.”

“We need to be prepared for future epidemics,” he added, and CEPI’s work “will contribute to building a safer world for all.”

For his part, the Chief of Health, Matt Hancock, stressed that “global health” is one of the main goals of the British presidency of the Group of Seven this year.

“The UK’s leadership in developing a vaccine that can be used worldwide has been vital in the fight against COVID-19. We look forward to working with CEPI to accelerate vaccine development and create a global solution that ensures we are better prepared for future pandemics,” he said.

The coalition’s five-year strategy, published in March, set out the goal of reducing the lead time for producing new vaccines to around 100 days, about a third of the time it took to develop and begin delivering SARS vaccines. EFE
