Syria: Syria blocks an attack by “Israeli missiles” on the periphery of Damascus

Madrid, March 17th (Europe Press) –

The official Syrian News Agency (SANA), citing military sources, reported that the Syrian air defense system intercepted and dropped several Israeli missiles in and around Damascus.

The Syrian News Agency (SANA) confirmed that “the Israeli enemy carried out a missile attack today at 10:35 pm (local time).”

The rockets were launched from the Golan Heights towards the outskirts of Damascus. The Golan Heights is a land that Israel captured from Syria during the Six-Day War (1967), after which it effectively annexed most of these territories under military occupation in 1981, in a move not recognized by the international community.

According to the military sources gathered by the aforementioned method, the defensive systems dropped most of the missiles, while the losses from the attack were limited to material and did not result in casualties.

For now, Israel has not commented on the attack. The Israeli army has carried out dozens of bombings in Syria under the pretext that it is working to prevent the establishment of Iranian bases in the country and the shipment of weapons to the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah militia by Tehran.

This alleged Israeli attack comes on the same day it was announced that, with the mediation of Russia, Syria and Israel, they are negotiating an exchange of three prisoners, an Israeli woman who entered Syria by mistake and two Syrian citizens detained in the Golan Heights, one of whom is accused of collaborating with Hezbollah.
