The entire Senate approved the appointments of the Mexican ambassadors to Germany, Francisco José Quiroga Fernández; Hungary, Rosario Asila Molinero Molinero, and former Minister for Environment and Natural Resources Josefa González Blanco Ortiz Mina for the United Kingdom.
Hector Vasconcelos (Morena), President of the Commission on Foreign Relations, emphasized, when presenting the opinions, that Mexico’s relationship with European countries is of paramount importance, due to historical and cultural ties, as well as the possibility of trade and investment.
Joseph González-Blanco Ortiz-Mina indicated that he is an outstanding academic with experience in public administration. In addition, he made it clear that he knew British society like few other people, because he had lived in this country for long periods of his life. “Throughout her career, she has been a staunch advocate of environmental and cultural issues,” he said.
On May 26, 2019, González Blanco Ortiz Mina resigned from the title of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) after participating in the controversy: Days earlier, he had postponed the departure of a commercial flight for 38 minutes to avoid losing it.
