President of Brazil concludes a fruitful visit to China

Since Thursday, the eminent South American has held meetings with the authorities, businessmen and trade unionists of the Asian giant, in each of them endorsing the will of his government to strengthen the comprehensive strategic linkage with the aim of ensuring greater benefits for both parties.

The meeting with his counterpart Xi Jinping ended with a joint declaration containing the guidelines for standardizing work in the economic and commercial field, but also in the political, social and environmental fields.

According to the text, the two leaders called for expanding trade and investment flows and win-win cooperation in both directions in areas such as infrastructure, energy transition, logistics, mining, agriculture, telecommunications, and high technology, among others.

They decided to join forces in research and initiatives that help address climate change and biodiversity loss, as well as move towards sustainable development and a low carbon economy.

To this end, they will form a specific group within the China-Brazil High-Level Bilateral Consultation Committee.

Likewise, they agreed to strengthen ties in the fields of tourism, culture and education, given their importance in promoting mutual knowledge.

Xi called for Lula to make better use of their countries’ weight and increase coordination in international platforms such as the United Nations, the G20 and the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), respectively. To advocate for pluralism, justice and global equality.

Among other issues, they highlighted the role of the CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum and expressed support for expanding BRICS membership, given the growing interest of various countries in their integration.

The joint statement also indicated that the two presidents discussed the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, and agreed on the need to give priority to dialogue and negotiations to end it, and considered it necessary for more countries to contribute constructively to finding a solution.

Apart from issuing that document, at the conclusion of their meeting, they witnessed the signing of 15 bilateral agreements.
