OCS, Trans-Himalayan, and AI Celebrate China Week

Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the importance of unity, cooperation and mutual respect today at a Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting in Kazakhstan.

The President welcomed Belarus as a full member of the organization.

Xi stressed that the key to resisting international changes lies in consistently adhering to the tradition of unity, the approach of equality and mutual benefit, the pursuit of justice and equality, and the spirit of inclusiveness and learning.

“We must maintain our principled commitment, continue to hold high the banner of the ‘Shanghai Spirit’, support each other, and ensure the development direction of the SCO,” he added.

The meeting concluded with the signing of the “Astana Declaration of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization”, approval of initiatives to promote global justice and development, and a series of decisions on cooperation in the fields of energy, investment and information security.

It was also officially announced that China will hold the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization for the period 2024-2025.

Also in the news this week was the 4th Trans-Himalayan International Cooperation Forum, which focused on the harmonious development of nature and people, with the participation of 160 delegates from more than 20 countries.

In the Xixang Autonomous Region, also known as Tibet, the event focused on cooperation among member states based on the Nyingchi Initiative, which promotes new ecological governance and regional cooperation.

Wang Jucheng, the general secretary of the Communist Party of China in this region, called for building a new pattern of development and practical cooperation with the Himalayan countries.

“Let us enhance exchanges and mutual knowledge among civilizations, and share experiences in environmental governance and development,” he said, stressing the need for open cooperation.

On the other hand, the 2024 World AI Conference in Shanghai broke records in exhibition size with more than 15,000 products on display in three sections – core technology, smart terminals and application enablement.

From July 4 to 6, the event became a showcase of progress in key fields such as robotics, large-scale models, intelligent manufacturing and education.
