Real-world Catalan pilot data showing GENinCode's genetic test reshapes heart-disease risk assessment sends shares sharply higher.
Shares in cardiovascular diagnostics firm GENinCode (AIM: GENI) jumped 20% in early trade on Friday after the company published real-world pilot results showing its genetic test materially altered risk assessments for patients with moderate heart disease risk.
The rally followed data from an 18-month pilot involving 584 patients aged 45 to 65 across 14 primary care centres in Catalonia, presented at the European Society of Cardiology congress in Munich, which found that adding GENinCode's CARDIO inCode-Score polygenic risk test to standard clinical assessment changed the overall risk classification for 42.6% of patients, with just over a quarter reclassified into a different risk category entirely.

The Institut Català de la Salut-run study reported that after a mean follow-up of roughly 8.5 months, patients' average cardiovascular risk score fell from 7.3% to 6.0%, while bad cholesterol levels dropped from 136.7 to 123.2 mg/dL and sustained smoking abstinence rose from 43.7% to 62.8%. Improvements were most pronounced among patients identified as having the highest genetic risk, nearly half of whom were subsequently moved into a lower risk category.
Dr Elisabet Descals, primary care director at the ICS, said the results offered further real-world clinical evidence supporting the use of polygenic risk scores alongside conventional clinical risk assessment in primary care, adding that the approach is expected to be cost-effective and could have immediate applicability in everyday practice.
Formal effectiveness and cost-effectiveness analyses are still being finalised, and investors will be watching for further validation studies and evidence of broader clinical adoption as GENinCode continues its push to embed genetic testing into mainstream cardiovascular care.
