Quito, Oct 20 (Prensa Latina) Representatives of the United Front of Workers (FUT) of Ecuador marched today in this capital to accompany the delivery of the organic labor bill to the National Assembly.

The mobilization included hundreds of members from various FUT member organizations, who also insisted on asking the national government to freeze fuel prices, the monthly increase of which affects many sectors of society.

Accompanied by banners and flags, protesters were stationed outside Parliament, while FUT directors entered the institution to deliver the proposal to the head of the legislature, Guadalupe Llori.

“This is the labor law, which the workers put in place for the sake of the workers,” said Jose Villavicencio, president of the General Federation of Ecuadorian Workers.

For his part, FUT President Angel Sanchez stressed that the law should provide legal guarantee for employers, as well as stability for workers, and guarantee a decent job, a fair salary, and respect for their rights.

The request was for the National Assembly to analyze, debate and approve the proposal, for the benefit of the working bloc.

The legal draft contains 429 articles that bring together aspirations and recognize work as a human right.

Sanchez emphasized that we prepared this labor law in the face of the authorities’ negligence, noting that executive labor reforms mean nothing but setbacks, fragility and violations of international laws, which he considered unacceptable.

He stressed that “conditions must be created and fair salaries guaranteed, without prejudice to rights,” noting that the government did not invite FUT to the existing dialogue tables with other organizations.

The presentation of the text gives continuity to a series of actions to demand favorable public policies for families with fewer resources, lower prices for agricultural inputs and implementation of the Basic Law for Intercultural Education, among other measures.

In this context, on October 26, a new mobilization against the national government and its provisions was planned, and a large part of the population rejected it.
