Ecuador, a place for a meeting on tourism in the Americas

The event will be attended by authorities from the sector from the 26 UNWTO member countries of the Americas, who will also participate in the symposium called Sustainable Investments, a strategy towards competitiveness.

Ecuador’s President, Guillermo Lasso, is scheduled to be present this Tuesday on the opening day of the event, as is UNWTO’s Secretary-General, Zurab Pololikashvili.

A statement from the Ministry of Tourism said the host country would be a “valuable opportunity to demonstrate progress in terms of sustainability, business competitiveness and international relevance”.

In this regard, the document indicates that the government encourages the exchange of experiences that promote the competitive development of companies, products and tourist destinations and that also allow the positioning of Ecuador as a destination committed to sustainable and conscious management.

The Forum will define the UNWTO Program of Action for the period 2024-2025 and attendees will discuss, among other issues, how to enhance opportunities to enhance economic recovery and job creation in the tourism sector and its value chain.

Before closing, they will determine the venue for the 69th session of the regional meeting, which UNWTO said it had received the request from Cuba to host the event.
