Colombia returns to the UNWTO Executive Board

The bag indicated that the country achieved this requirement by a majority of 11 votes in the elections held in the context of the 68th Summit of the Americas of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in Quito, Ecuador.

The Deputy Minister in this field, Arturo Bravo, confirmed that after 10 years, Colombia returns to the highest decision-making body of the most important tourism forum in the world.

The body said issues such as overall strategy, budgets, programs and UNWTO managers are being determined.

“We want to work closely with other countries in the Americas to enhance cooperation and exchange best practices in the field of tourism,” he stressed.

He added that Colombia’s aspiration to join this council is encouraged by a vision of tourism in Latin America based on integration and cooperation, which promotes regional rapprochement, social promotion and the achievement of sustainable development goals through tourism.

Likewise, in this context, it was determined that the Colombian Natalia Bayona will be responsible for the executive direction of the UNWTO.

On the other hand, within the framework of the Summit of the Americas, UNWTO and the Government of Colombia signed an agreement that would allow the development of the Community Tourism Innovation Challenge and the establishment of a global UNWTO thematic forum in this regard. Country.

The agreement will also allow the promotion of other measures that will put Colombia on the world tourism agenda.

The next meeting of the Executive Council, with the participation of Colombia representing the Americas, will be held in October 2023 in Uzbekistan, where the General Assembly of the organization will take place.
