Campaign in Costa Rica to improve conditions in the agricultural sector – Prensa Latina

The initiative in the second activity of occupational accidents in this country, promoted by the Occupational Health Board of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), seeks to improve working conditions, promote a culture of occupational risk prevention and compliance with regulations. To reduce accident rates in this sector.

In introducing the campaign, MTSS President Sylvia Lara emphasized that the contribution of the agricultural sector is vital to the country’s economic and social development.

But he stressed that the well-being and health of the thousands of workers who put their efforts daily in the field is more important, for the well-being of themselves, their families, and the well-being of everyone who lives in Costa Rica.

For her part, the First Lady, Claudia Dupless, praised the importance of this campaign to raise awareness about heat stress in the province of Guanacaste, where agriculture is one of the most important economic activities.

However, he noted that temperatures are extremely high in regions of the country, especially in the dry season, so it is very important to remind farmers of the importance of hydration and prevention during the working day.

The MTSP specifies that the purpose of the first stage is to prevent the effects of heat stress, which can lead to severe dehydration, which can be associated with atypical CKD.

This initiative is considered more important because agriculture is the second economic activity in occupational accidents in the country, while 71 percent of the economically active population working in this sector does not have insurance coverage against occupational risks.
