Bolivia strengthens its fight against dengue fever in Santa Cruz

“We have noticed an increase in cases and a suspicious lack of interest from the Department of Health in this issue,” said the Minister of Health and Sport, Jason Oza.

The headline reported that it was for this reason that a strategy was coordinated and designed between his portfolio and the defense portfolio commissioned by President Louis Arce.

Oza confirmed in a press conference held jointly with the Deputy Minister of Defense and Integrated Development Cooperation, Augusto García, and members of the military forces.

He explained that more than five thousand people from Kambodromo, including health professionals, military and civilians, will carry out a comprehensive intervention in order to control the outbreak of dengue fever with the elimination of mosquito breeding sites, and the use of biological larvicides. , and fumigation, among other measures in coordination with municipal departments.

With the documents available, the Minister indicated that 53 days ago, due to the increase in dengue cases in the municipalities of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, San Julián, San Pedro and Yapacany, the Ministry of Health asked the Department of Circuits (Headquarters) Crucinho to take responsibility and he did not.

“Similarly, (…) by analyzing the epidemiological behavior, the Government of Santa Cruz and the Headquarters were reminded of the need for them to intervene in priority municipalities in compliance with their powers to develop comprehensive campaigns that allow “reducing the breeding sites of mosquitoes and rodents, an aspect that has once again been ignored”, lamented Oza.

He pointed out that in Santa Cruz County’s irresponsible political health department, on January 26, only after 1,140 cases and four deaths were reported in Santa Cruz due to dengue fever, the headquarters issued the epidemiological alert.

This type of decision constitutes an essential tool for the headquarters, as it allows the intensification of epidemiological surveillance activities, patient care and prevention and control activities in affected municipalities.

Oza called on the people of Santa Cruz to take part in this activity quickly to eradicate the disease and assured that the national government did not abandon it at any time to protect their health.
