ALBA-TCP: Cuba denounces obstacles to the export of medical supplies amid the Granma “world” pandemic

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parilla, speaking this Thursday at the 19th summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the America-Our Peoples Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) held in Caracas, conveyed a greeting from the Cuban President, Miguel Diaz-Canel. to the presidents present.

“I thank all ALBA-TCP member states for their support of the Cuban resolution against the embargo,” the foreign minister said.

He added that we thank Venezuela for the possibility of meeting at this Bicentennial Peoples Summit, inspired by the editor Simon Bolivar.

Bruno Rodriguez expressed the Venezuelan people’s continued struggle against imperialism and oligarchy. “I reiterate our support for the people of Nicaragua, led by President Daniel Ortega, despite threats and interference from the United States,” he commented.

“All our support to the countries of the Caribbean in their demand for fair and differentiated treatment, necessary to meet the challenges posed by climate change, natural disasters, the unfair international financial system and the new and difficult conditions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The determined and supportive response of ALBA countries after the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, with the dispatch of aid and medical personnel, underlined the strength of the Alliance and the values ​​it inspires.

The pandemic has demonstrated the fragility of underdeveloped economies. How can we make it clear to people that extraordinary advances in science and the global scientific community’s preparedness for COVID-19 cannot guarantee access to essential medicines for the vast majority of people?

The chancellor questioned the obstacles imposed by dozens of countries on the export of medical supplies and the way the United States has reinforced its sanctions.
