A sample in Brazil warns of the necessary protection of the Amazon rainforest

Available at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio until June 12, the model recreates the animals, plants, people, and traditions of this biome, spanning the territories of Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela and French Guiana.

According to a statement from the foundation, the Amazon rainforest is experiencing a “critical moment”, and therefore, the exhibition aims to make this reality visible in order to transform it and enjoy the beauty of its landscapes, the cultures of the people who inhabit it and learn about its resilient spirit.

The viewer can learn about the daily lives of the 400 local ethnic groups, their ancestral practices and languages, the result of more than four years of research and months-long coexistence in the forest for the organized group.

Futuros expresses sounds and images to provide an interactive journey to one of the most biodiverse regions in the world, through seven exhibition areas, which provide the opportunity to participate in games for all ages and experience virtual reality.

Another point addressed by the exhibition is the evolution of the Amazon over the years, the transformations that have suffered from the destruction of native vegetation, as a result of indiscriminate logging, fires, illegal mining or the unbridled expansion of agribusiness.

“We knew we needed the Amazon because it gives us” the document details, while warning of its impact on the stability of the planet’s climate and the value of biodiversity, threatened by the sixth major extinction of life on the planet (this time caused by humans).”

The exhibition re-emphasizes the foundational building of the Museum of Tomorrow, which opened in December 2015 with a design inspired by Carioca culture through its architecture, while exploring the relationship between the city and the natural environment.
