The Minister of Energy in the new government asks for his resignation in Guatemala

The Simela Movement party said, “The minister made the position available to them so that the duo could determine what is most suitable for the portfolio,” without specifying the reasons for the decision.

During the new CEO's presentation, Vice President-elect Karen Herrera highlighted Guardado's professional training and work experience, as well as his master's degree in business administration with a focus in sustainable development.

She added a graduate degree specializing in human rights, where she was director of the Association of Renewable Energy Generators (AGER), and described her work on the issue of innovation in the country’s development model as fundamental.

Analysts pointed to the appointment of two ministers as members of the Coordination Committee of Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial and Financial Associations (CASF), including Guardado.

This is despite the fact that during the election campaign Simela MPs and legislative candidates repeated as part of their rhetoric a future without this dubious private business entity.

Experts believe that some sectors of the electorate may feel betrayed because they wanted to exclude Kasif from the government.

When asked about this, Arevalo responded that the aforementioned slogan was never part of his campaign and “what we committed to is to form a unity government to rule the country.”

The politician said, “The members of the government do not represent any sector or any party. It is a government of people capable of assuming their duties.”

He explained that the appointment of the team was based on the analysis of CVs and the experience and training of each of the professionals was taken into account.

The current representative also stressed that this government has one main mission, which is to work tirelessly to improve the lives of all Guatemalans.

The presidential duo will assume their duties next Sunday, the 14th of this month, and one day later, the mayors and heads of councils in this region located in Central America will assume their positions.
