The situation in Sudan is exacerbated by ethnic clashes in Darfur – Guantanamo Radio

theOngoing ethnic clashes in West Darfur exacerbate the situation in Sudan today, which is already heavily affected by truce violations between the army and the so-called Rapid Support Forces (Reporters Without Borders, in English).

On Tuesday, the Sudanese Medical Union announced the collapse of the health system in West Darfur state, due to the recent resumption of ethnic fighting, which has already caused dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries.

The confrontation between the Arab and African tribes began again on April 24 in the town of El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state, close to the border with Chad.

This Sudanese region was affected between 2003 and 2008 by an ethnic conflict that left 300,000 dead, and it is an area controlled by the Rapid Support Forces because many of its fighters are from there.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian and health situation in the capital is rapidly deteriorating as the bombing continues on the second day of the new 72-hour truce, which took effect on Sunday.

According to local sources, fighting continues between the army and the Rapid Support Forces at the airport, north of the city, as well as in the south of the neighboring city of Omdurman.

Both sides in the conflict accuse each other of systematic violations of the ceasefire or of attacking residential areas and health facilities.

Amid this situation, the United Nations warned that more than 800,000 people may flee Sudan due to fighting, hunger and destruction.

Clashes broke out in Sudan on April 15 due to the contradictions in the midst of the process of integrating the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, Vice President of the Sovereign Transitional Council within the Armed Forces, and Commander. From the army and the Chairman of the Science and Technology Committee, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
