The president of Somalia travels to the Democratic Republic of the Congo

April 19, 2021, 8:28 amMogadishu, April 19 (Prinsa Latina) The President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, traveled today to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he is expected to hold meetings with the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.

Abdullah Mohamed will try to resume relations with Nairobi as part of an initiative led by the African Union, whose current president is the governor of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi.

Although the meeting with Kenyatta is not part of the agenda for this official visit, to which Tshisekedi invited him, it is assumed that the meeting will help correct the rupture of bilateral relations on 15 December due to a Kenyan approach to the authorities of the semi-independent Somaliland.

In those days, Mogadishu refused the presence of the President of Somaliland, Musa Bihi Abdi, in Nairobi, where he met with senior Kenyan government officials, which was enough to freeze his diplomatic relations, in addition to launching a torrent of accusations. .

This is the first trip abroad by the Somali president, amid increasing pressure from the international community to cancel the extension of his mandate approved by Parliament, and to return to talks with leaders of member states of the Union.

On the other hand, the Kenyan assistance in the security affairs of the government established in Mogadishu cannot be denied, because the military forces in Nairobi are part of the African Union mission unit facing the Somali insurgency.
