SANTO DOMINGO, Sept. 29 (Prinsa Latina) The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Miguel Ceará, has confirmed that the Dominican Republic is among the 15 countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, media reported today.

According to “Hui” newspaper, the minister warned that since the country is very vulnerable, it must confront the above-mentioned impacts with concrete measures.

“Although we are not responsible for this process, we barely contribute 0.08 percent of greenhouse gases, our isolation and geographic location largely determines a high degree of vulnerability,” the official said.

He also said that the other influencing factor is the fact that you are in the path of hurricanes.

In an interview with the press, Sia considered it necessary to change the production model followed in the country, after noting that society had developed predatory patterns of natural resources.

He said that this society is reproducing itself from an economic, social and institutional point of view, under models that have been great predators of natural resources and the environment in the long run.

“Today we realize that the problem of climate change is not an issue of choice, it is a reality and we must confront it,” he stated.

Finally, he expressed the urgency of changing the method of solid waste management, “If we continue this model, today, in practice, we need two republics, double the 48 thousand square kilometers, this is unsustainable.”
